Ingredients

  • For the Crust:
  • 1 pre-made pie crust or homemade, if preferred
  • For the Filling:
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1/2 cup diced bell pepper optional
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Optional Toppings:
  • Pepperoni slices
  • Sliced black olives
  • Sliced mushrooms
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Fresh basil leaves

Instructions

  • Prepare the Crust:
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. Trim and crimp the edges as desired.
  • Cook the Beef Filling:
  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef, onion, and bell pepper. Cook until the beef is browned and the vegetables are softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Drain excess grease from the skillet. Stir in garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and pizza sauce. Remove from heat.
  • Assemble the Pie:
  • Spoon half of the beef mixture into the prepared pie crust. Sprinkle half of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the beef.
  • Add any desired toppings, then layer the remaining beef mixture on top. Finish with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
  • Bake the Pie:
  • Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Serve:
  • Let the pie cool for 5 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil if desired.

Notes

  • Crust Options: For a lighter option, use a whole wheat or cauliflower crust.
  • Make It Spicy: Add red pepper flakes or spicy sausage for extra heat.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven for the best texture.
