This Air Fry Shake and Bake Chicken is a quick and delicious way to get crispy, golden chicken without deep frying. The air fryer gives the chicken a perfect crunch while keeping it juicy inside. Serve with mashed potatoes, roasted veggies, or a fresh salad for a complete meal!

Ingredients
  

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)
  • 1 packet Shake and Bake coating mix or homemade – see below
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or melted butter optional, for extra crispiness
  • Cooking spray to prevent sticking
  • Homemade Shake and Bake Mix Optional:
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs plain or panko
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese optional, for extra flavor

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the Chicken:
  • Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  • If using homemade coating, mix all dry ingredients in a bowl.
  • Lightly coat chicken breasts with olive oil or melted butter (optional but helps crispiness).
  • Add the Shake and Bake mix to a large resealable bag or shallow dish.
  • One at a time, add the chicken to the bag and shake to coat evenly (or press into the coating in a dish).
  • Air Fry the Chicken:
  • Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
  • Place the coated chicken in a single layer in the air fryer.
  • Cook at 375°F (190°C) for 18-20 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  • Check for doneness using a meat thermometer (internal temp should be 165°F/75°C).
  • Serve And Enjoy:
  • Let the chicken rest for 2-3 minutes, then serve hot with your favorite sides!

Notes

  • Extra Crispy Tip: Lightly spray the coated chicken with cooking oil before air frying.
  • Thighs Instead of Breasts? Use boneless or bone-in thighs, but increase cooking time to 22-24 minutes for bone-in.
  • Want a Spicy Kick? Add ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper to the coating mix.
  • Storage & Reheating: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 5 minutes.
