  • 2 large eggs

  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil for frying

  • cup hot sauce like Frank’s RedHot
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

  • Coat And Cook the Chicken:
  • In a bowl, mix cornstarch, flour, salt, black pepper, and paprika.
  • Dip each piece of chicken into the beaten eggs, then coat with the flour mixture.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium-high heat.
  • Fry the chicken in batches for 3-4 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
  • Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
  • Make the Firecracker Sauce:
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, whisk together hot sauce, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes.
  • Simmer for 3-5 minutes, until slightly thickened.
  • Coat And Serve:
  • Toss the crispy chicken pieces in the firecracker sauce until fully coated.
  • Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
  • Garnish with green onions or sesame seeds for extra flavor.

Notes

  • Baked version? Bake the chicken at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway.
  • Air fryer method? Cook at 375°F (190°C) for 12-15 minutes, shaking halfway through.
  • Want it milder? Reduce the hot sauce to ¼ cup and increase the brown sugar.
